Is AutoSock suitable for use in mountainous regions?

Yes, absolutely! AutoSock increases grip even with winter tires on steeper, snow-covered roads. AutoSock for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a gross weight of less than 3.5 t can be used legally if snow chains are mandatory within the EU (excluding Austria). In Switzerland, AutoSock has been the legal alternative to chain requirements since 2022.

Following general procedures, the standard has been implemented in all member states of the European Union as well as in Norway, Iceland, Serbia and Turkey. All older national standards have been withdrawn. In Austria, for example, the previous snow chain standard ÖNORM V511 September 2007 no longer exists. AutoSock complies with the European standard EN16662-1:2020 and is a legally approved traction aid. Important for Austria: When snow chains are officially required (blue round sign), Austrian law currently only recognizes metal chains (according to ÖNORM V5117). AutoSock is therefore the ideal "get-home" aid and a tremendous help on snowy roads, but it must not be used as a substitute when the sign "Snow chains required" is displayed.
